Camp NaNoWriMo has begun!
I’ve been introduced to my cabin mates at Camp NaNoWriMo, and I’ve done a little bit of writing on my way to 50,000 words, and the first draft of my first novel.
The working title of my novel is The Company Game, and the story is about the relationship between Jedda, an emotionally insecure security analyst at a high tech company and her boss, Sydney, a man she’s known since college and the owner of the company. Sydney willfully puts Jedda in a terrible situation, and she must see it through to the end or the entire company, as well as thousands of other companies throughout the world, will be at risk of collapsing.
I completed my first writing session this morning – 643 words. Not too bad for an hour. If I can average 600 words per hour, and write for three hours a day, I should be okay.
I did another hour long writing session this evening and got in 1196 words, which brings my daily total to 1,839 words. After day 1 of Camp NaNoWriMo, I am 172 words above pace. Awesome!
In writing my short stories, I never really concerned myself with word count and time. This will be a new experience for me. But I’m game for it! Bring it on! My virtual cabin at Camp NaNoWriMo has writers with the same word count goal as me, so it will be pretty easy to cheer each other on. Early on, there are about four of us in the cabin who seem to be somewhat vocal about Camp NaNoWriMo. I imagine the others will perk up once they get a few thousand words under their virtual belt.
I’m glad to be doing this. I seem to work best when under a little bit of pressure. I may regret saying that by the end of April, but that’s how I feel at this moment.
