 SYNOPSIS

Network of Deceit cover

She’s following her instincts. They’re following her every move.

After her rescue of nearly fifty kidnapped children made international headlines, Amara Alvarez gets what she’s worked for: a transfer to San Antonio’s Homicide Division. But reality sets in quickly when her first case, the suspicious death of a teenager at a crowded local water park, plunges her life into chaos.

As the investigation moves forward, Amara finds herself stalked online by cybercriminals who uncover her personal life in frightening detail. With few leads, she’s forced to resort to unconventional methods to find the killer and prevent her first murder investigation from ending up in the cold case files.

Tom Threadgill is back with another riveting page-turner featuring the detective who is willing to put everything on the line to see justice served and lives protected.

Interview with Detective Jeremiah “Starsky” Peckham
from NETWORK OF DECEIT
by Tom Threadgill
I’m excited to be interviewing one of the characters in the Amara Alvarez series today. Please join me in welcoming San Antonio Homicide Detective Jeremiah Peckham, better known to his friends as Starsky. Welcome, Detective.
Thanks. Glad to be here but I’m not real sure, uh, what’s going on?
Sure. Readers want to know more about you. For instance, how did you get your nickname? Starsky. That’s a reference to the old TV show, right? But you don’t look anything like Paul Michael Glaser. I mean, he’s kinda ruggedly handsome, dark hair, looks like he could—
I get it. I’m tall, pale, and redheaded. Obviously, we’re not twins or anything.
So, again, why do they call you Starsky?
Next question.
Man of few words, I see. Fine. Let’s move on. One of your traits is your ability to eat whatever you want, whenever you want, and seemingly not gain any weight. In fact, one of our readers mentioned in a review how unrealistic that was and that your nutritional habits would have surely caused your death by now. Can you respond to that?
Love to. See, I’m not real. I’m a character in a series of novels. You make things up and write them down and bam! Here I am. Nothing can kill me except you. (Worry lines crease Starsky’s forehead and he scratches his chin.) You’re, um, you’re not thinking of—
Honestly? Haven’t decided yet. If I get to a point where the book starts to sag and I need to throw in something to shake things up, all bets are off. No worries though. I’ll make it quick and painless. Maybe.
Is there someone else I can talk to about that? An editor? Publisher? I’ve got a lot to offer and I’m afraid you’re not seeing the whole picture.
Au contraire, my friend. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the whole picture. Remember that scene in Network of Deceit? The Speedo pic you threatened to text to Amara? I still have nightmares.
Har har. That was supposed to be private. Just between me and Amara.
Private. Right. That’s why I put it IN A BOOK. Speaking of Amara, can you clarify the relationship you two have?
(Starsky rubs his palms on his pants.) We’re really good friends who work together. I don’t want to embarrass her or anything, but it’s no secret I’d like to be more involved in her life. If she wants me to be. But I also don’t want to mess up what we have now. It’s really not complicated except when it is. Maybe you could, um, call her and ask the same question? What the status of our relationship is from her perspective?
Call her? You know she’s in my head, right? I already know what she thinks of your relationship and, more importantly, what the future holds for you two.
Yeah? So care to clue me in? Is there a chance this might be a long-term thing? Marriage even?
Sorry. Gotta save that for future books. I can tell you one thing though. The Speedo pic? You didn’t do yourself any favors.
